Moment · Finishing treatment

The last day of treatment

Breast Cancer

Woven from the experiences of 1,371 women. Patient-reported, not medical guidance.

Women describe the last day of active treatment as a moment they had imagined many times before it arrived — and as something different from what they imagined. Many describe feeling, unexpectedly, afraid. Not relieved. Because the treatment, as hard as it was, was doing something. It was a fight with a schedule. What comes next has no schedule.

In their words

Composite quotes, representative of many women, not verbatim.

I thought I'd feel elated. I'd been counting down to this day for six months. Instead I sat in the car in the parking garage for twenty minutes and cried. Not sad exactly. It was just — a lot. All of it hitting at once.
