Living with the fear it comes back

Breast Cancer

Woven from the experiences of 1,303 women. Patient-reported, not medical guidance.

Recurrence fear doesn't announce itself. It arrives as hyperawareness of a new ache, a sleepless night before a scan, a flash of dread from a news story about someone else's diagnosis. Women in survivorship describe it as a permanent resident — not always loud, but never fully absent. Women who describe living with it most sustainably describe not fighting it, but learning to hold it alongside everything else.

In their words

Composite quotes, representative of many women, not verbatim.

Four years out. I still have a moment every time I feel something new in my body. My brain goes there immediately. I've stopped being ashamed of that. It's not irrational. I had cancer. My body taught me to pay attention. I'm just trying to make sure it doesn't run the whole show.
